A staple in the city of Azusa. Family owned Mexican restaurant. I came across this place when I tried there chips and salsa at a party. I was hooked. If you ever need chips and salsa for a party this is the place to go. There is some family secret to these chips and salsa. I must of checked in here so many times just for chips and salsa. This place is always packed. Walk in wait in line and order your food. Plenty of plates to choose from or ala carte items on the menu. Find a table and wait for your order to be delivered. Food comes out hot so watch out. Great food at a reasonable price in a great atmosphere.

This place was recommended by my husband's co-worker. He doesn't even live in Azusa! BUT we live right down the street. And I'm picky. I was skeptical of yet ANOTHER Mexican restaurant. This. Is. Worth. It. So good! I usually order carne asada because that's the most basic meat but if you know how to cook, it's the best. And they know. THEY KNOW. My husband ordered the carnitas which are always a hit and miss because they can easily be dry and hard but this was quite the opposite! I wish I ordered the carnitas actually! So melt in your mouth! The chips were so good. I don't know about the salsa though. I wish it had a kick to it. The service was good as around. Everyone was helpful. You order your food and then sit down. You'll see someone at every corner. The place was weird for me in the outside but inside? So spacious! So open! So CLEAN. And I'm observant. Like I said I'm picky. We are definitely coming back here! Thank you so much La Tolteca!

I've been eating at this restaurant since I was a kid. Don't be dismayed by the line at the door. Sometimes it's out the door, that should be your sign that the food is good. I've never left a review for this restaurant, but I really felt I needed to today. They were extremely busy, busier than I think I've ever experienced in a long time. I drove all the way from the Inland Empire, being a previous resident of the area, it's always worth making the drive. With all that being said, Carlos made up for the extreme wait. The wait for our food was extended quite a bit, but he made sure that we had plenty of chips and salsa and as soon as our food was ready, got it to us. It's guys like Carlos, taking care of you, that make it worth the trip every time.

This place has great vibe and the food is so good! The chips and salsa and the refried beans are the best I've had. Staff is friendly and attentive. I'm glad I'm just down the street. I recommend this place for some good Mexican food.

Saturday 2024.12.21 Party of 2 Tamale, pork very good Enchilada, 1 beef and 1 cheese, generous shredded beef but pork in tamale was more flavorful Table chips and salsa very good. Salsa has good flavor. Rice and beans on plates were solid, well seasoned and good texture. Staff was friendly and attentive. Atmosphere was laid back and calm at this time of day. Better than I thought, would be willing to return.

This staple of Azusa has been serving the community in believe for over 70 years. The carnitas are savory and delicious. The chips and salsa is always a great start to your meal. Salsa is always fresh. Make sure you get their early enough because they run out of carnitas all the time. The service is always a toss up depending how busy they are for the tables but ordering food is pretty good service.

First time visiting and I was very impressed with the food, service and the look of the restaurant inside. It's very large inside has a bar. You order at the counter then take a seat. Food came out quickly was hot and delicious. Everyone we encountered that worked there was very friendly. Self serve fountain machines and aguas.

We've been a regular here for quite some time, the drinks are heavy & the prices are light. You order from the counter, pick up your drinks from the bar or soda dispenser, and a server brings the food to your table. While waiting, you get the house made tortilla chips & salsa. When the place isn't busy you can just find a table or booth. They were able to accommodate our party of 10 out in the patio area. I'm not a fan of their shredded chicken or beef, it's a bit dry for my palate. So I tried the carne asada platter, now that was a good meal! It had with it Mexican rice, refried beans, 2 small tortilla bowls - 1 with guacamole, 1 with pico de gallo. I also recommend their blood orange margarita!! Took a star for the restroom, it needed some light cleaning.

La Tolteca is my husbands favorite nostalgic Mexican restaurant and I finally got to go for the first time! I love how they've decorated and designed the layout of this large building. It looks like a brew house style set up with tall ceilings and big open bar area with tvs that play the sport games. There are some rooms in the back, where my husband had his graduation party years ago. It's a stand and order style which kinda takes away from the classic Mexican restaurant style I'm used to, but they make it work. It's a cute family style feeling. We got a tostada, which wasn't so impressive and had gotten smaller over the years and the chip bowl isn't super fresh. My husband got 2 taquitos which looked pretty small and un-astounding but he enjoyed the nostalgia and loves the chips. I didn't think the chips were so special, but they are good. I got the carnitas plate which I think is the best thing on the menu and the carnitas meat is phenomenal. Super juicy, delicious, and fall apart. I didn't like that I had to pay for extra sour cream; the guacamole was ok, but felt either frozen or watered down; the pico de gallo, salsa was SPICY! The beans were very fatty and oily and cheesy and the rice had the classic flavor. I think I had really high expectations and it wasn't quite there. Looks like a local business turned production line and because of that some love and quality got lost.
